1. To learn more about the origins of the term “transference” in Freud’s early papers and how Freud changed his views about the nature of the transference as he developed his theories from his clinical experiences.
2. To learn how Klein’s work with children on the nature of unconscious phantasies and  different types of anxieties led her to conceptualize  “the total transference situation.”
3. To learn more about how Betty Joseph expanded this and her understanding of what constitutes  “the total transference situation”.  

 EILEEN McGINLEY, M.D.                Dr. Eileen McGinley, is a member of the British Psychoanalytical Society in London, where she is in full time psychoanalytic practice.  She has been Editor of the Society Bulletin, Honorary Secretary of the Scientific Committee, member of the Psychoanalytic Forum, and is currently a member of the Curriculum Committee.  She has been on the organizing committee of the European Psychoanalytic Film Festival.                   A gifted Kleinian clinician, Dr. McGinley is also a prolific psychoanalytic writer.  Along with A. Varchevker, she has edited three books for Karnac, London including Enduring Loss: Mourning, Depression and Narcissism Through the Life cycle.  Her articles have appeared in the International Journal of Psychoanalysis as well as in  other major journals.
