"How Does Moonlight Challenge Our Unconscious Bias by Asking Us to Empathize with Those We Have Been Conditioned to Negatively Stereotype?"

The discussion will be led by Chanteenel McClendon, LISW

----------------------------------------------------------------

How do we empathize with a struggling mother whose internal conflicts and external circumstances have contributed to a chaotic experience for her son, Chiron? Also, how can we provide support to Chiron without falling into the role of the "good parent" for him? Instead, how do we help Chiron develop empathy for his mother, so he can ultimately develop empathy for himself? Furthermore, how does Chiron’s mentor challenge our stereotypes and perceptions of drug dealers? How can we help Chiron maintain a positive identification with his drug-dealing mentor while also guiding him toward a safer path without undermining the stability of their relationship?

Free parking is in the back of the building. Someone will be at the building’s rear door from 4:15 to 4:45.

This program is FREE and OPEN to the public.
