Message From the HPC Faculty Chair

January 25, 2014To:   All Members of the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center, Child Analysts and Candidates of the Hanna Perkins Center, and the respective Boards of CPC and HPC Dear Colleagues: We are pleased to announce that the proposed HPC/CPC Collaborative Child Focused Program was approved by the Board on Professional Standards of the American Psychoanalytic Association [APsaA] at their annual meeting on January 15th, 2014.  This is a momentous step for the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Community and we have many to thank for their efforts in bringing this about.  It would not have happened without the active and time consuming efforts of the respective HPC and CPC faculties and candidates who served on committees and participated in countless meetings, the support of the two Boards, the input of the HPC CEO and CPC EC Chair, and the facilitation provided by members of the APsaA Committee on Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis.   We are particularly grateful to Arthur Rosenbaum who spearheaded the efforts during his role as Interim Clinical Director at Hanna Perkins and to Charles Parks, Chair of the APsaA Committee on Child and Adolescent Analysis, who provided ongoing advice and presented the proposal to members of APsaA.The approval of the program was accompanied by the appointment of seven HPC Faculty as APsaA approved Child Supervisors.  The seven faculty members are Devra Adelstein, Beatrice Griffin, Ruth Hall, Judith Pitlick, Barbara Streeter, Carl Tuss, and Lorraine Weisman.   This means that all current HPC Faculty now have the credentials to be supervisors of candidates in child analysis in the Cleveland Child Focused APsaA approved program.  The seven newly approved supervisors join the four existing APsaA approved Cleveland child supervisors, Arthur Rosenbaum, Scott Dowling, Joanne Naegele & Judy Chused (geographic appointed), bringing our number to eleven.Now that the program has been approved, steps are being taken to develop an informational brochure about the program and recruit candidates for the training due to start in September of this year.  Karen Baer, the CEO of HPC, and Carl Rak, President of the CPC Board of Trustees, are meeting to discuss the administrative details entailed in offering a program sponsored by two separate organizations.  The Faculty of the Collaborative Child Focused Program will be meeting to develop procedures by which those current candidates at HPC who wish to transition into the Collaborative Program can do so.  The Faculty will also be developing guidelines by which new faculty members can be appointed. With appreciation to all, Barbara Streeter, Chair of the HPC FacultyJoanne Naegele, Chair of the CPC Sub-Committee on Child Analysis
