This presentation will focus upon the very controversial, very misunderstood, and very difficult to treat condition, currently known as D.I.D., Dissociative Identity Disorder. By reconceptualizing it as a “lower level dissociative character” in which dissociation is the central underlying defense, it may become possible to work psychodynamically with such patients. Within this paradigm, 5 stages of treatment can be considered as guidelines.
Objectives:
1. To learn about a model of DID that lends itself to a unique psychodynamic treatment
2. To learn about the 5 stages of treatment in this transference based therapy
