Notable Events From APsaA 2018
Submitted by Richard Lightbody, MD.
Following are notable events from the APsaA meetings last week:
- Vickie Todd was certified in adult analysis. She had already been certified in child analysis.
- Nanette Auerhahn presented two papers.
- Vera Camden led a Discussion Group on Winnicott’s Piggle.
- Elisabetta Superchi represented the CPC at the FORUM of the Department of Psychoanalytic Education.
At Executive Council, important steps were taken re: training and governance:
- Revised Psychoanalytic Training Standards were approved, using IPA standards as a floor.
- An ombudsperson position was created to help civilize the ‘tone’ of APsaA listserves.
Executive Council was modified in support of its role as APsaA’s Board of Directors:
- Four Councilors will be elected to serve on an Executive Committee of eight.
- A Lead Councilor position was created, to help council committees function better and interact effectively with the Executive Committee.
For those who may not have heard about the APsaA vote for President-elect, I lost. I was keenly disappointed but realize that there are still other opportunities to contribute to APsaA and to CPC. Thanks to all who supported me and those who voted for me. I felt supported in my campaign throughout. Please plan to attend our Open Meeting on March 10 to discuss the impact of new training standards, especially related to choices we must make now that we have declined AAPE.Questions are welcome.
