FROM SCOTT DOWLING: I've recently discovered Coursera, the free courses offered over the Internet from major universities on a variety of topics. I've sampled a few and found them interesting but have just started one that is really, really good for those who have an interest in neuroscience in a "medical" (i.e., functional) setting. It’s called Medical Neuroscience and its from Duke Univ. The course has completed its regular run and is now (for a short time) available without having quizzes graded and without the peer interaction that occurred when it was first given earlier this year. If you want to do it, or just to look it over, now is the time as they will close it to new students sometime soon. To find it look up Coursera.org and search for the course "Medical Neuroscience." If anyone's interested we could have a mini-peer group. The original course was taken by something like 100,000 persons from all over the world.. They also have one on Child Development from University of Edinburgh starting on the 28th. I know nothing about it but know it is a respected center for (non-psychoanalytic, probably more attachment theory) child development.. Check that one out also. (If, like me, you have nothing else to do!!)
