We would like to draw your attention to important changes and additions to our educational programs, beginning this September (2014). The following is an introduction to Psychoanalytic Thought and Therapy, and The Cleveland Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training Program.Psychoanalytic Thought and Therapy has two tracks of study. One track is for those who want to deepen their work in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (PTT, Psychotherapy Track) and the other is for those who wish to become psychoanalysts (PTT, Psychoanalyst Training Program). The Psychoanalytic Thought and Therapy Program is sponsored by the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center. This program is approved by the American Psychoanalytic Association. Why Study Psychoanalysis or Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?

Educational PhilosophyThe Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center believes in integrating learning and practice by exploring the many connections among the prevailing paradigms: modern ego psychology, self-psychology, object relations, and relational. We see these as complementary ways of understanding the complexity of the human mind and relationships in illness and in health. Recent discoveries in the neurosciences are becoming integrated with psychoanalytic theories and providing more complex ways of understanding mental events and mind-body interactions. We support the combined study of human developmental theory from infancy to old age, psychoanalytic theory, and technique. Each participant brings his/her own unique experience to this endeavor and thereby enhances the growth of all involved.The Structure of the ProgramThe Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Track of the program has three years didactic curriculum with and optional fourth year. The Psychoanalyst Training Program has four years of didactic curriculum. Both tracks are for practicing clinicians in mental health. Academicians who have an interest in psychoanalytic thought and other non-clinicians are encouraged to discuss options available for them. All the students in Psychoanalytic Thought and Therapy, whether choosing to study psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, or for deepening scholarship, will take the entire first year together.Please follow this link to read a description of Psychoanalytic Imagination, an entirely new course created for this program. Eligibility Both tracks, to study psychoanalytic psychotherapy and to train in psychoanalysis, are for post-graduate mental health clinicians. Those with clinical experience will need a current license and professional liability insurance. Non-clinical applicants will be considered on an individual basis. The Cleveland Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training Program

In January 2014 the Board of Professional Standards of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) approved a new child and adolescent psychoanalytic training program for Cleveland.  As such this is an official training program  of APsaA.  Those in training will be able to have candidate membership in APsaA and the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA).  The Hanna Perkins Center's Child Analytic Training Program has been in existence since 1958.  The Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center (CPC), during a similar period, has offered training in child and adolescent analysis to candidates at the CPC. The two organizations are pooling resources to work together to provide child analytic training in Cleveland. The program consists of three components:

1. A four year didactic curriculum
2. Clinical work: supervised psychoanalytic treatments of children and adolescents and work with parents
3. A personal psychoanalysis with a training analyst
